Marlboro cigarettes

In 1924 Philip Morris created new cigarette brand Marlboro. One of the most famous cigarette brands in the world initially was aimed for women audience. These cigarettes had red filter called “beauty tip”, it protected ladies’ white teeth from yellowing and hided the lipstick marks left on the filter. Marlboro’s slogan was “Mild as May”. But cigarette as product wasn’t so popular among women.

In 1950’s Marlboro cigarettes started being sold as men’s. In order to promote former women’s cigarettes to men audience, strong cowboy “Marlboro Man” was used. Only he could kill everything feminine in Marlboro filter cigarettes. Marlboro Man clearly stated: “The filter doesn’t get between you and flavor”. The famous slogan used in the brand’s promotion was “Come to where the flavor is...come to MARLBORO COUNTRY”. Since that Marlboro Man is one of the most successful advertisement symbols and Marlboro cigarettes are the best-selling brand in the world.

The new Marlboro’s design was changed: white color goes into red as an arrow, besides that its box has sensational flip-top. Marlboro cigarettes manufacturers started sponsoring motor racing, what played a big role in its promotion.
